In Proverbs 8, Solomon says, "for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her."(Proverbs 8:11 ESV) What is biblical wisdom? It is "the art of reaching one's end by the use of the right means" (ISBE).
We pursue so many things in life; fame, riches, pleasures, power, or popularity. Here in the Scripture we are reminded that in order to thrive not just survive we need wisdom. Solomon had lived this axiom. Early in his leadership he was offered anything and he requested wisdom (1Kings 3:5-15). God granted him all that he didn't ask for because he chose God's way. Later in life he possessed everything but peace. All he had gained at the expense of wisdom cost Him.
I hear a warning here from an older Solomom full of regret: "For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death." (Proverbs 8:35-36 ESV) There is good news for us today. James tells us to ask for wisdom(James 1:5) and Paul promises that Christ has been made unto us the wisdom God(1 Cor 1:30).
God's wisdom is yours for the asking. So go ahead, ask. I dare you.
